Most of the tea picking in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) is made by Indian Tamil women. They work hard for little money… British brought the tea cultures in the mid 1800s – Sinhala people were reluctant working on tea plantations, so the British “imported” cheaper working force from the Tamil region in India.
